GSAR Training

Riding Mountain National Park was the back drop to the latest GSAR training. April 28 was the day. Planed to be a great weekend, but in the end left me wanting more. There was 2 scheduled searches and some stuff with a helicopter. Found out that morning that the helicopter was not coming. A big disappointment, but the day carried on. We had our briefing when we got to Katherine lake. That's when we found out there would not be a helicopter on cite. Got our GPS start coordinates and off we went. It was a wonderful day to be out in the woods. After our first search was done it was time for lunch and it was great. They served us beef barley soup and sandwiches. Lunch was had with some good conversation  with other GSAR members at the training from other parts of the province. Then it time for some low angle rope rescue training. Of course I volunteered to be the victim, and then we did it again with another person. That was a good review for me, and that turned out to be the end of our day. The drive home was a tiring three and a half hours. I thought my day would end there but it was off to Leah's for coffee and pie. :) A great ending to a long day, some time with a good friend.
