ICYA Gem Lake Camp
It was an awesome extra long weekend. started early Friday morning. Only ended up getting to Gem about 1 pm. Started working at cutting wood at 2:30 and had our first and only accident of the weekend on the cutting of the first tree. B was finishing the last cut of the tree and pulled out the chain saw quick as the tree was falling. In doing so he skimmed the front of his left leg just above the knee. After the tree fell he looked out at all of us wide eyed and simply said hey I cut my leg. Every one was not sure what happened, B started walking towards us and us towards him. He pulled his pant leg apart where he cut it and we saw what looked like a giant gash in his leg (everyone got a bit excited) but it was only a few inches in length. Curt and I went back with B as fast as we could the Flyer to use my first aid kit I had brought. Then Curt took B on a 2 hour trek to the hospital to get it cleaned up and stitched (5 good stitches). From the time they left to the time they got back was 6 hours and we were done cutting wood for the day.
The rest of the weekend was uneventful accident wise. We cut a lot of wood and had a lot of fun. We were able to go on a few snowmobile rides jumping from lake to lake. We got to live out there with out running water and hydro. There was some solar powered battery that did run some lights in the dinning hall. The Flyer was more rustic, with a wood stove and candles for light. It was all so much fun, meeting new people and working to help the camp with getting them enough wood for at least a year. :)
